Respite Centre Launch

A morning tea celebrating the official launch of the STAR Tasmania Children’s Respite Centre was held on Friday August 27 on site at the centre at Lutana.

Premier David Bartlett officially opened the Centre in the presence of approximately 70 industry representatives, staff, clients, families and supporters.

Board Chair Lyndall Johnson thanked Darryleen Wiggins and her respite team for their preparation and tireless efforts in making sure the centre was ready for operation on 2 August, when the organisation took over operations from Disability Services.

The centre currently provides regular support to approximately 40 children. STAR is committed to providing as many families and caregivers as possible the opportunity to maintain their primary care giving relationship whilst providing a positive experience for the children.

The day was acknowledged as significant in the history of STAR as well as in the history of provision of disability services in the state. The organisation is proud to be offering a service of such importance and value in the community.

Gala Launch August 2009

A cocktail party celebrating the official launch of STAR Tasmania was held on August 14 at the Hobart Function and Conference Centre.  Over 200 guests attended the event including clients, families, staff and industry representatives.

The Honourable Heather Butler, MP, representing Premier David Bartlett, launched the new service, paying tribute to the achievements of the Board, Management and staff in coordinating the vast project of amalgamation.

STAR Tasmania CEO, Rhonda McLaughlin cited “willingness to build new relationships, review practice and change” as a key focus for the organisation in its pursuit of continual improvement in services.

She said that these factors coupled with a shared vision for the future would help STAR Tasmania achieve its goal of becoming a service and employer of choice.

Both Rhonda and Board of Management Chair Lyndall Johnson praised the commitment of staff, and thanked clients and families for their support in what has proven to be remarkably smooth operational transition.

The evening was a great success and a fantastic way to celebrate the end of an era and welcome a new beginning for the organisation.
