Our 10 person voluntary Board of Management consists of representatives across the community and business sector.
Board meets on a regular basis and is responsible for implementing STAR Tasmania’s constitutional requirements.
It is involved with the overall running of the organisation, sets the strategic direction of the service and ensures that the structure will enhance service delivery for clients.
Peter Nelson - Chair

Peter is a clinical psychologist of 21 years experience.
He first started working in the area of Disability at the old Willow Court Centre and then Community Disability Services. He continues to see clients from various organisations within his private practice.
Peter was secretary of Star Tasmania for the last five years and is the current chair of the Hobart Branch of the Australian Psychological Society.
Peter was a Star Tasmania Board member for eight years.
Garth Stevens - Deputy Chair
Garth is a barrister and solicitor.
He has spent six years on the Board of Management of Cerebral Palsy Tasmania, and three years as Secretary of the Tasmanian Bar Association.
Garth was on the Board of Management of Star Tasmania for seven years, with three of those years as Deputy Chair.
Jacinta Leahy - Secretary

Jacinta brings a wealth of disability service knowledge and experience to the STAR Tasmania Board of Management following an extensive career in the industry starting in 1975 in Western Australia.
Jacinta held a number of positions within the Tasmanian State Disability Services where she commenced employment in 1987, resigning in 2006. She cites involvement with the closure of Willow Court and the establishment of community residential organisations as career highlights during that time.
Jacinta served on the Board of Supported Housing Inc since late 2007.
Kane Salter - Treasurer
Kane is currently the Manager Finance with the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment. Kane is a Certified Practising Accountant with extensive experience in financial and management accounting across several Government Departments.
Kane joined the Star Tasmania Board in June 2010.
Lyndall Johnson
Lyndall is a solicitor with law firm Dobson Mitchell & Allport. She practices in Commercial Law, Property Law and Estate Planning.
Lyndall is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
She was a board member with Supported Housing Inc since June 2006 and Chairperson of STAR Tasmania from January 2009 until August 2010.
Maria Flynn

Maria is a Management Training and Development Consultant.
She has had extensive experience in the disability sector and is a volunteer trainer and committee member of Training and Education for Change.
Maria is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and was Chairperson of Supported Housing Inc for 3 years.
Michael Sims

Michael is a Trainer / Instructor with Metro Tas.
As a parent of one of STAR Tasmania’s clients, Michael brings valuable insight into the challenges facing the families and carers of people with disabilities.
Michael was a member of the Star Board for approximately 12 years
Kim Baumeler

Kim is a partner with law firm Butler McIntyre Butler. Her practice includes all areas of the criminal spectrum, as well as allied criminal justice matters. Kim also has extensive trial experience.
Kim is on the Board of Directors for Crimestoppers Tasmania, Member of the Medico-Legal Society Board, as well as a member of the Eastside Lutheran College Board. She is Chair of the Criminal Law Committee for the Law Society and member of the Criminal Law Committee, Law Council of Australia and member of the Law Society Council
Kim served on the Star Tasmania board for 12 years, with the last few years in the position of chairperson.
Jason Browne

Jason is Business Banking Manager with Westpac Business Banking in Hobart and adds substantial strategy and financial management experience to the Board. He is a member of the CPA Tasmanian Divisional Council, Treasurer for Special Olympics Tasmania and member of the Bellerive School Association Committee.
Jason is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA), has a Bachelor of Economics, Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance & Investment (Corporate Finance) and Masters of Business Administration (Human Resources).
Jason joined the Star Tasmania Board in June 2010.
